Digital Printing Paper

Ah, the wonderful world of digital printing paper. There are many different paper companies out there ready to service your needs ... but read this article first.

Essentially, there are four different types of digital printing paper to choose from. These types are: resin coated, porous papers, cast coated papers, and cotton rag papers. Of course, the type of paper that you choose will determine the quality of your overall product, though you should also consider the product before you select the paper. Confused? Well, it’s really quite simple ...

Resin coated papers are the types of papers that most people use for special occasions. Glossy, luster, satin, and semimatte papers are all resin coated. These papers are often used for weddings, charity events, and galas. In order to make resin papers, a company must place a piece of paper between layers of plastic, and the top layer is then dipped in polymer, which is designed to take in ink the best. When you use this type of paper, your image will stay shiny and the ink will not smudge.

Porous papers (microporous, nonoporous, nonoceramic, microceramic, and photobase) often warn consumers with a sign that says “quick dry.” True to their name, porous papers absorb ink quickly. However, any type of printing done on this paper will fade over time, so it shouldn’t be use for fine art. The next type of digital printing paper, cast coated paper, is different from porous and resin paper in many ways.

Cast coated papers have a hard shell that becomes even harder when it is brushed with a chrome surface – this is why this type of paper has such a shiny surface. This type of paper will often fade when the light is too strong, and this paper is also extremely light. Finally, cotton rag papers last long, they are perfect for fine art, and they are made from 100% cotton (most of the time). You’ll want to choose a cast coated paper for a photograph or work of art.

Digital printing paper isn’t that hard to figure out, but (like anything else) it just takes a moment of your time. Before you buy any sort of paper, make sure you know what you are purchasing. Also, now that you know about these papers, you can easily purchase only those pieces of art that will last for a long time.
